Michael Simons

Michael David Simons is a U.S. citizen and a legal, permanent resident of the Papagayo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. As an avid traveler of the United States, Michael Simons decided that it was time for a change of scenery. As soon as his feet first touched Pura Vida soil Michael knew that this was his paradise and was where he was going to spend the rest of his life. After selling his stateside business, Michael moved to Costa Rica in 2003 and became immersed within the community. He settled in the beautiful Playa Hermosa, a picturesque area of Costa Rica known for its moderate climate, gorgeous coastline, and family friendly beaches.

Guanacaste’s Liberia International Airport (LIR) is located within 20 minutes from his office – an easy driving distance from many beautiful beaches like Playa Hermosa, Playas del Coco, Playa Panama and Playa Ocotal. It’s the perfect tropical location for anybody looking for a home in Costa Rica and who wants to be close to everything and everyone they love. There is not a better place to live!!!

Michael Simons has been involved in sales in the USA his entire adult life, with the primary focus on the cellular phone and electronics industry, having owned and operated as many as 6 businesses at one time. During a vacation trip to Costa Rica in 2000 he made a life-changing decision to purchase two ocean view lots. Three years later the beauty and charm of Costa Rica lured him back one more time, but this time for good, as he purchased co-ownership in one of Costa Rica’s biggest real estate franchises.

“Our office will always put the best interests of our clients first.” — Michael Simons

Over the next 17 years Michael achieved every award possible, more than he could ever have imagined, with a worldwide recognized brand. He grew his little Tres Amigos office into one of the largest and most successful real estate companies in Latin America, with three locations and over a dozen agents, and he has consistently been the Top Selling Agent in Costa Rica. His team of professionals has sold more properties than any of their competitors, has a rock solid reputation with their clients and has an unrivaled understanding of the local market.

Michael’s philosophy is firmly cemented in putting the client’s interests first by providing a professional, informative, loyal and dedicated service from both himself and his excellent staff. The client is all important, but Michael also believes in providing opportunity, innovation, and rewarding challenges to all members of his organization. Michael attributes much of his success to providing a level of service that not only helps his clients find or sell their property but to navigate the details of setting up and managing their affairs in a foreign country.

In response to the unique needs of his out of country clients, Michael provides a complete referral network to service providers he has personally used and can vouch for – from insurance, cars, cell phones, TV and Internet; to dentists, doctors and vets; all the way up to helping a client build, landscape and furnish their dream home; and finally connecting them with a reputable property management company to keep an eye on their little piece of paradise when they are not here. Check out this exhaustive list of frequently asked questions about everything Costa Rica answered personally by Michael. If you are more visual, Michael answered many of your questions in person on video here.

After having outgrown the brand, and with their reputation and client base firmly planted, Michael and his team left the franchise and became an independent real estate company known as TRES AMIGOS REALTY GROUP in September 2020. The TARG team, along with Michael’s clothing line TANK TOPS FLIP FLOPS are actively involved in the local community, sponsoring over 25 charities, raising tens of thousands of dollars a year for these foundations. He is not just a leader in the real estate industry but in the people business as well.

Michael is a member of CRGAR (Costa Rica Global Association of Realtors) and NAR (National Association of Realtors) and specializes in Residential and Investment real estate.

Michael lives with his 13 rescue dogs on a golf course in nearby Libertad and enjoys watching professional sports while drinking Banana Watermelon Margaritas and Imperial Ultra Beer while floating in his pool.  In his spare time he explores Costa Rica in search of new adventures which are published here in his fun and informative ‘Tank Tops Flip Flops’ Newsletters.

We are at the J.W. Marriott for tonight. It looks pretty remote so I doubt you’re in the neighborhood.
Lovely country and great tour with Caravan.
Sorry we weren’t able to connect.
    Pura Vida,

I just found and read the History of Playas del Coco. Our family has history in that area too. In 1971 Pat and John Sandidge arrived in Coco along with other Gringo friends (the Spooners and the Tolivers) to try the ex-pat life. They all were befriended by Rafa Hurtado and the crowd played volleyball on the beach and enjoyed body surfing. They stayed part of the time at Claudio’s hotel and ate at the restaurant. In 1978 I made it to Playas del Coco for the first time, returning several times over the years. In 1986 while on vacation for the Christmas holidays, my brother John and I invested in a property owned by Tom Epling. We sold it in 1993. I’d really like to connect again Rafa but I don’t have his current email address. If and when you see him, please send my regards. You may share my email address with him. Thanks!
